About Anjung

A Home for Better Family Conversations

We started Anjung because money talks at home were often the hardest ones to have. Our mission is to make them easier — and more productive — for every Malaysian family.

Our Story

How Anjung Came to Be

The name Anjung — the sheltered front porch of a Malay home — was chosen deliberately. It is the space where families gather, where conversations begin, and where decisions are made together before stepping out into the world. That idea shapes everything we do.

Anjung was founded in 2018 by a small group of educators and family counsellors in Petaling Jaya who noticed a consistent gap: most household financial problems were not caused by a lack of money, but by a lack of shared understanding within the home. Couples disagreed on priorities. Parents felt unsure how to bring children into the conversation. Multi-generational households struggled with competing expectations.

Rather than building another budgeting app or running generic finance seminars, the founding team chose a quieter, more personal model — facilitated workshops and structured programmes where families work through their own situation together, guided by an experienced facilitator.

Since opening our doors in SS2, we have worked with over 400 households across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Our programmes remain deliberately small and hands-on, because we believe the quality of a conversation matters more than the size of a room.

What We Stand For

Our Mission and Values

Cooperation Over Competition

Money decisions at home work best when everyone has a voice. We design every session to bring family members together, not to single anyone out as the decision-maker or the problem.

Listening Before Advising

Our facilitators spend far more time drawing out a family's own views than presenting information. We trust that most families already hold the answers — they just need space and a gentle structure to find them.

Education, Not Sales

We are a pure education provider. Anjung has no commercial relationship with any bank, insurer, or investment firm. Families receive information — not a sales pitch — and remain entirely free to make their own choices.

How We Work

Our Standards and Approach

We hold ourselves to clear principles across facilitation quality, content accuracy, participant wellbeing, and ethical conduct.

Qualified Facilitators

All Anjung facilitators hold recognised qualifications in adult education, counselling, or financial literacy training. New facilitators complete a 60-hour internal certification before leading sessions independently.

Content Accuracy Review

Programme materials are reviewed annually against current Malaysian financial education guidelines. We ensure all content remains factually accurate, balanced, and free from product bias.

Participant Confidentiality

What families share in a workshop stays within that room. Facilitators are bound by a written confidentiality policy, and no personal financial information is recorded or shared with third parties.

Post-Programme Feedback

Every programme concludes with a structured feedback form. We use this data to refine content and facilitation quality on an ongoing basis, and share anonymised aggregates with participants on request.

Inclusive and Respectful Environment

Sessions are run in a space that welcomes families from all backgrounds, income levels, and household structures. Facilitators are trained to manage sensitive conversations with care and without judgement.

No Commission or Product Sales

Anjung does not accept referral fees or commissions from any financial institution. Our revenue comes solely from programme fees paid by participants, so our interests remain fully aligned with families — not providers.

Our Expertise

Household Money Planning in the Malaysian Context

Household money management in Malaysia carries its own particular texture. Families navigate a mix of household income structures — from single-earner households to dual-career couples, multigenerational arrangements where elderly parents are supported, and young families managing first home ownership alongside childcare costs. The standard generic financial education content, often produced for Western audiences, rarely speaks to these realities directly.

Anjung was built around this gap. Our facilitators draw on deep familiarity with Malaysian household patterns — the way money conversations often happen indirectly, the cultural weight placed on supporting extended family, the particular anxieties around children's education costs, and the common practice of informal saving arrangements among family members and close friends.

Our three programmes are designed as a progression. The Household Budget Together Workshop is an entry point: a single day that helps a family map what they earn, what they spend, and what they collectively want to change. The Shared Goals Family Programme takes that starting map and works with it over six weeks, helping families turn broad intentions into a fair, clearly owned plan. The Whole-Family Finance Foundations Course goes deeper still — covering how everyday financial products work, how to plan for shared milestones such as home purchases or children's schooling, and how to build habits that hold across different life stages.

Across all three, the approach is consistent: we hold a space for families to think clearly, speak honestly, and leave with something concrete and their own. That is what the front porch has always been for.
